Bret PagniBret Pagni – General Manager/ Owner/ Muckdogs 19U Assistant Coach/ Muckdogs 9U Head Coach 

Bret played locally at McQueen High School (’91-’93) and at Reno High School (’94).  After graduating he went on to play California Community College baseball at Yuba College (’95-’96) in Marysville, California, receiving second team All Bay Valley Conference honors his sophomore year on the field of play. He also earned his associates degree in arts off of the field that same year.  After his two years at the JC level he earned a Division One baseball scholarship to play at Centenary College (’97-’98) in Shreveport, Louisiana.  While receiving All-Louisiana Team honors his junior year he was a significant contributor his two years in the program, and off the field he earned a bachelor’s degree in English.  After his senior year (summer of ’98) he was fortunate enough to sign a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs organization where he played with their rookie ball team in Mesa, Arizona.  Unfortunately his time there was short as he was released less than a month later. Once he came home he decided to end his playing career and start full time with his coaching career.  His first lesson client, Joe Wieland, has gone on to be drafted by the Texas Rangers organization in the fourth round of the 2008 draft and is currently in the big leagues with the San Diego Padres.  Bret went on to build his lesson business and in 2003, with the help of Ken Camel, they started the Muckdogs Baseball Club.  During the past ten years Bret has spent time as head coach of the 10U team and is currently the head coach of the 9U club.  He serves as the assistant coach/ recruiting coordinator for the Muckdogs 19U summer team.  His Muckdogs general manager duties keep him busy, and also serves as the president of Nevada Lightning Fastpitch, a traveling fastpitch softball organization that was established in 1990.  He works hard on a daily basis with his instructors to prepare athletes for high school, college and beyond.

Ken CamelKen Camel – Assistant General Manager/ Private Baseball Instructor/ Muckdogs 19U Head Coach/ Muckdogs 18U Black Head Coach 

Ken started his high school baseball career at Ocean Springs High School (’89-’91) in Mississippi.  When his parents moved to Hawaii he concluded his high school baseball career at Millani High School (’92).  After graduating he went on to play a year at Central Arizona College (’94), where his team was ranked in the top 25 of the NJCAA rankings.  After his time at CAC, he earned a solid financial aid package to play for Division Three powerhouse, Upper Iowa University (’95-’97), where Ken played under current University of Iowa Head Coach Rick Heller.  Ken’s team played for the NCAA Division Three National Championship his junior year.  Off the field, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Marketing, graduating with double major. Ken began his coaching career as a high school baseball coach in Minnesota as an assistant coach at Owatanna High School (’98).  He went on to coach in Iowa as the Kennedy High School Feeder Program Head Coach (’99-’00).  After taking a year off from coaching he led a group of 12U players from Iowa to AAU state championship, serving as their head coach for a year (’02).  In 2004 he moved to Reno and started working out of our academy.  He started up as a lesson instructor and also was one of the first head coaches in Muckdog history, taking the 14U head coaching position.  Later that summer he took the reigns as the Muckdog 19U coach, helping build the program to what it is today.   In 2006 he led the Muckdogs 14U team to a third place finish at the Winter Nationals in Surprise, Arizona.  Currently he remains the 19U summer team manager (formerly the Muckdogs 19U Joe Dimaggio team, leading the club in the summer of 2010 to it’s first Joe DiMaggio World Series title).  He is also the 18U Black Muckdogs fall/winter team coach as well as the assistant general manager of the Muckdogs organization.  You can find him at the facility most every day working with his students and talking to college coaches trying to promote our athletes to the next level.

Jake Cardoza 18U Black Assistant Coach

Jake graduated from Granada High School in 2010 Livermore, CA where he played baaeball for four years.  After graduating he went on to play baseball at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA (’11-’13).  Jake then earned a scholarship to play NCAA Divsion Two Baseball at Texas A&M International (’14-’15)  He also played two summer for too collegiate summer team, Top Speed Baseball (’13-’14).
 
Jake began his coaching career in 2011, helping out at the Ohlone College Youth Camps.  He also coached at the Texas A&M International Youth Camps.  He joins the 18U Black coaching staff as an assistant starting in the fall of 2017.  He will specialize in working with catchers and hitters.
Robbie WickwareRobbie Wickware – Muckdogs Muckdogs 18U Red Head Coach 17U / Head Coach

Robbie played high school baseball at Churchill County High School (’96-’99).  He went on to play at at Cerro Coso Community College (’00-’02) where he was named team captain his sophomore year.  He then transfered to a four year NAIA school, University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas where he played for tow years (’03-’04).  Robbie earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Studies while at University of Saint Mary and has a master’s degree in School Administration from Grand Canyon University. In 2005 he started his coaching career, serving as an assistant varsity coach at Churchill County High School (’05-’07).  He was then promoted to the head varsity coach at Churchill County High School (’08-’10).  Robbie also coached summer baseball for four seasons, serving as the Fallon Blackjacks 18U head coach (’07-’10), where he led them to a Joe Dimaggio World Series appearance.  Robbie currently helps out with the winter, spring and summer baseball camps at our academy.  Robbie currently resides in Fallon, Nevada with his wife Sarah Wickware.  Robbie served as the Muckdogs 13U coach from fall 2012 through May 2013.  Robbie currently is the head coach of the Muckdogs 18U Red team from August through January each year and is also the head coach of the Muckdogs 17U summer team from later May through July.

Anthony RosaAnthony Rosa – Muckdogs 18U Red Assistant Coach 

Anthony  played high school baseball at Damonte Ranch High (’07-’10) under Jon Polson, one of the top high school coaches in Northern Nevada.  Anthony still holds many school records at Damonte, also earning All State honors twice.  He earned a Division One baseball scholarship to play at University of Nevada (’11-’12).  Anthony started as a freshman the first quarter of the season before being injured, and injury he couldn’t overcome even after sitting out the rest of that season and the following season.  Anthony is working towards his accounting degree while attending University of Nevada. Anthony has served as an assistant coach on the Muckdogs 19U club the past two summers, working with hitters and outfielders.  In the fall of 2012 he will take over as the head coach of the Muckdogs 14U team, a position he held through January of 2017.  In the fall of 2017 Anthony will serve as the assistant coach of the Muckdogs 18U Red team.

Garrett MooreGarrett Moore- Muckdogs 18U Red Assistant Coach

Garrett played four years at Spanish Springs High School, playing mostly middle infield during his high school career while also participating in the Muckdogs organization.  After high school Garrett attended College of the Siskiyous in Weed California where he played for head coach Billy Hefflinger.  Garrett was a significant contributor both of his years at COS.  He moved on to play four year baseball at Concordia University in Nebraska.  An injury to his throwing arm cut short his playing career, and Garrett returned to the University of Nevada to complete his degree.  In addition to coaching travel ball, Garrett has served as the head JV coach at Spanish Springs High School the past four season.  He starts his coaching career with the Muckdogs as the 18U Red head coach.  Garrett specializes in working with infielders and hitters.

Justin SortinoJustin Sortino- Muckdogs 16U Black Head Coach 

Justin played high school baseball at Spanish Springs High (’01-’04).  After graduating from high school Justin went on to play at Northeastern Junior College (’06-’07) in Sterling, Colorado. Justin started his coaching career at Sparks High serving as the assistant JV coach/pitching coach (’08’-’10).  He was promoted to head JV coach (’11-present) where he has spent the last two seasons developing younger players in the Sparks High program.  During the summer months, he serves as the head coach and GM of the Sparks Trojans summer baseball program.  Justin recently obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mathmatics and has been hired as a full-time teacher at Sparks High School Justin came on board the Muckdogs staff as an assistant for the Muckdogs Black team in 2012 where he will served as pitching coach, help with coaching catchers, as well as coach first base.  In the fall of 2013 Justin took over as the Muckdogs 16U head coach.  He still holds that position currently.  Justin also served as the Muckdogs 17U Assistant Coach in the summer of 2016.

Scott Underwood- Muckdogs 16U Black Assistant Coach

Scott graduated from Galena High School (’05-’08) where he played under head coach Gary McNamara.  After high school Scott played at Yuba College (’09-’10) for two seasons.  Following his time at Yuba, Scott earned a Division One scholarship from Jacksonville State University (’11-’12) in Alabama.  In the summer of 2013, through 2015 Scott has played with three Independent professional organizations.
 
He started his coaching career in the fall and winter of 2013, serving as the Muckdogs 16U Black assistant coach.  He returns to that position again in the fall of 2016 serving under Justin Sortino.  Scott specializes in working with hitters and outfielders.
Trevor WomackTrevor Womack- Muckdogs 16U Red Head Coach/ Muckdogs 9U Associate Head Coach 

Trevor played at Reno high School (’01-’04).  After graduating, he went on to play at Treasure Valley Community college in Ontario, Oregon where he was a two-time All conference selection (’05-’06).  After two years at the JC level and earning his Associates Degree, Trevor accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Midland Lutheran in Fremont, Nebraska (’07-’08).  While playing there he was a two-time All Conference selection.  After his senior year he received an offer to travel to Europe and play baseball in Prague, Czech Republic against national teams from Italy, Czech republic, Croatia, Slovakia and Greece while the teams were preparing for the Olympics later that summer.  Upon completion of the tournament Trevor returned to Midland Lutheran to finish his accounting degree (’09). In the summer of 2011 Trevor began his coaching career with the Reno Hurricanes, serving has their head coach (’12).  He came to the Muckdogs organization in early 2013 serving as the Muckdogs 9U assistant coach.  In the fall of 2013 Trevor took over as the Muckdogs 16U Red head coach, a position he still holds today.  He also serves as the associate head coach on the 9U coaching staff in the late spring and summer months.  Trevor specializes in working with catchers and hitters.

Brady Ovard- Muckdogs 16U Red Assistant Coach

Brady Ovard graduated from Douglas High School in 1998 where he lettered three years in football and four years in baseball.  As a senior, Brady earned first team honors in both sports and lead Douglas High to its first state baseball tournament in ten years.  In 1998-1999 he participated in football and baseball at Menlo College in Atherton, CA where, in baseball, he worked primarily as a starting pitcher.  In 1999 Brady transferred to Lassen College to focus on baseball.  At Lassen College, Brady played outfield and earned his associates degree.  After his sophomore year at Lassen College, Brady transferred to Saint Mary’s College of CA to focus on academics.  Brady earned a BS in Biology from Saint Mary’s College of CA in 2003.  After working as a chemist for 2 years, Brady changed careers and earned his teaching credentials from the University of Nevada in 2007.

Brady currently teaches Chemistry at Reed High School.  He is entering his 11th year of teaching in the fall of 2017.  He previously taught science at North Valleys High School (2 years) and Dayton High School (7 years).

Brady was the head JV baseball coach at Dayton High from 2008 – 2010.  In 2011, he assisted the varsity baseball staff coaching outfielders and hitting. He was also the head JV football coach at Dayton High School 2009-2013.  In 2014, Brady served as head freshmen football coach at North Valleys High.  In 2015, he was promoted to varsity special teams coordinator and held that position through 2016. Brady is currently the varsity defensive coordinator at North Valleys High School.  In 2017, He will be assisting the 16u red fall/winter team.

Brady resides in Sparks with his wife Kaitlyn, and two children Jackson (10) & Madelyn (7).

Matt Pagni- Muckdogs 14U Head Coach

Matt graduated from Manogue High School (’05) where he was a standout two-way player, playing on the varsity team for three seasons.  He also played a summer with the Muckdogs 19U team (’05).  He went on to play college baseball at Feather River College in Quincy, California where he focused his efforts on pitching.  After finishing up his baseball career at FRC, Matt attended the University of Nevada where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and his master’s degree in Secondary Education.

Matt started his coaching career in 2007 with the Muckdogs organization, serving as an assistant on the 10U team.  He went on to coach travel ball with another organization in town after moving back from Alaska.  Matt has been an assistant varsity coach at Galena High the past two years, where he serves as the team’s pitching coach.  In the fall of 2016, Matt accepted the position of the Muckdogs 13U assistant coach.  In the fall of 2017 Matt will serve as the Muckdogs 14U head coach.

Stephen Rebagliati- Muckdogs 14U Assistant Coach

Stephen grew up in the San Jose, CA where he graduated from Willow Glen High School (2004).  After graduation from WGHS Stephen attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas where he played for head coach Carl Iwasaki (2005). Stephen also attended DeAnza College where he played college baseball (2006).  He was selected to play on the USAAI  team in Europe that competed against National Teams of European countries.  He obtained his A.A. degree from San Jose City College.  During his playing career, he played mainly first and third base.

Stephen began his coaching career in 2006 coaching at the high school level.  He has experience in coaching various age groups at the rec. level, ranging from 8U to 13U.  Stephen begins his coaching career  with the Muckdogs as the 14U assistant coach.  He will work with infielders and hitters.

Zach Samuels- Muckdogs 13U Head Coach

Zach grew up in San Jose, CA, graduating from Leigh High School (2005). He was a two-time First Team All- Conference (RHP/SS) at DeAnza College (06,07).  Zach played Division One baseball at UC Santa Barbara (08,09). After his senior season in college, he signed with the Detroit Tigers as a RHP in 2009.

Zach played 4 years of minor league baseball from 2009-2012 compiling a 10-6 record with a 2.80 ERA mostly as a reliever and making it as high as Double-A in 2011 and 2012.
 
In 2013, he signed to play for the Draci Professional Baseball club in the Czech Republic. Zach had the opportunity to pitch as well as play infield and won the 2013 European Cup batting title with a .571 batting avg in the two week tournament. He also collected regular season MVP honors.
 
Zach began his coaching career in 2004, first working at his father’s annual baseball camps, former major league pitcher for the Giants, Roger Samuels.  He also served as a coach/instructor for the Stanford High School Prospect Showcase (2013-2014).  Zach has been doing private pitching lessons since 2014.  He also served as a 10U coach for Eastlake Little League in San Diego, CA in 2015 and 2016.
 
Zach begins his Muckdog coaching career as the 13U team’s head coach.
Andrew Stinson- Muckdogs 13U Assistant Coach

Andrew played high school baseball at North Tahoe High School.  He also played for the Muckdogs 17U Summer Team for two seasons.
 
Andrew started his coaching career after graduating from high school serving as 17U Summer Team assistant coach for two seasons. He also spent time as an assistant coach at the 11U and 12U levels of the organization.  He now serves as the 13U assistant coach.

Eric MeyerEric Meyer- Muckdogs 12U Head Coach

Eric attended Galena High School where he played  under head coach Ron McNutt. Eric played in the Muckdogs organization for four years. After graduation in 2010 he attended College of the Siskiyous and played two seasons for head coach Billy Hefflinger. After redshirting as an outfielder his freshman year, he focused on pitching where he found success as a relief pitcher his final two seasons. Following his time at COS he chose to focus strictly on his education. In May 2015 he graduated from Southern Utah University with a BS of Athletic Training.  Eric served as the 12U assistant coach starting in the fall of 2015.  In the fall of 2016 he was promoted to the head coach of the Muckdogs 12U team.

Andrew PuckettAndrew Puckett- Muckdogs 12U Assistant Coach 

Andrew has a playing background in the U.S. Army where he served our country proudly starting in 1984, the same year he started playing competitively for the Army.  He was named an all honors outfielder (’86, ’87) while playing in the Army.  After finishing up his service, he started playing competitive softball, which he has done now for over twenty years. He started his coaching career as a girls fastpitch coach, coaching his oldest daugther in traveling teams.  He made the transition to baseball six years ago, where he began helping his middle child Montana, in the rec. leagues.   Andrew started his tournament level coaching in the spring of 2011, serving as the Muckdogs 9U assistant coach,  a position he held through August 2016.  Currently he serves as the Muckdogs 12U assistant coach.  Andrew specializes in working with hitters.

Tyler LongTyler Long- Muckdogs 11U Head Coach 

Tyler was a four year varsity starter, playing middle infield, as well as being named the captain for three and a half of his four seasons at Folsom High School from 2010-2013.  He is currently pursuing a double major in Economics and Marketing at the University of Nevada.  Tyler served as a student assistant coach under former University of Nevada Head Coach Jay Johnson during the Fall of 2013.  In the summer of 2014 he coached for the Hard 90 Baseball program.  Tyler is also is involved with continuing his baseball career as a player and is Vice President of the Nevada Club Baseball team.  He will assist the 16U Red team, where he will specialize in working with infielders and hitters.

Cody Begovich- Muckdogs 11U Assistant Coach 

Cody Begovich graduated from Douglas High School where he was a standout performer (’09-’12).  He played two summers on the Muckdogs 19U team.  He earned a baseball scholarship to play NCAA Division Two baseball at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma (’13-’16).  Cody played a summer in Richmond, Indiana playing in the Prospect League East.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern State University.
 
Cody begins his coaching career as an assistant on the 11U team.  He specializes in working with hitters and outfielders.
Ryan ButlerRyan Butler- Muckdogs 10U Head Coach

Ryan was a four year starter for Reed High School (’09-’12), where he earned 1st and 2nd team All League Outfield honors all four years.   Academics were an essential ingredient to Ryan’s success as he was named to the All-State Academic Baseball Team graduating with a weighted grade point average of 4.62. 

Ryan bought into the Muckdogs mission and goals.  He used baseball as a tool to help him get the best education possible.  Ryan was slated to play baseball and attend Pacific University.  Two major surgeries derailed Ryan’s baseball career, and he is now attending the University of Nevada.  He recently made the Deans list for Academics. Ryan served as the 9U assistant coach in the summer of 2014.  In the fall of 2014 Ryan was named as the Muckdogs 10U Head Coach.  He holds that position currently.

Mike JenkinsMike Jenkins- Private Baseball Instructor/ Muckdogs 10U Assistant Coach 

Mike attended Redondo High School in Southern California (’83).  After graduating from high school he went on to play at Harbor J.C. (’84) playing on their state championship team and was coached by legendary coach Jim O’Brien.  Mike’s dad is in the California Coaches Hall of Fame as one of the winningest coaches in Southern California high school history. Mike began his coaching career as the Frosh/Soph head coach at Redondo High (’85).  He then became the varsity pitching coach at Redondo High (’86-’88).  Mike served as the West Torrance High varsity pitching coach (’92-’99), coaching two separate teams that were ranked number one in the country and one point in their respective seasons. After moving up to Northern Nevada, Mike served as the Muckdogs 14U assistant coach (’10-current).  Mike works with the pitchers and coaches first base.  He also serves as a private pitching instructor at the academy.  In the fall of 2014 Mike took over as the Muckdogs 13U Head Coach.  As of the summer of 2016, Mike serves as the assistant coach for the Muckdogs 10U team.

Ron Sparks

Ron Sparks- Muckdogs 9U Assistant Coach/Muckdogs 17U Assistant Coach

Ron graduated from the University of Nevada with a degree in finance. After college he was the Executive Director of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education for 17 years. He comes to us with 15+ years of coaching high school baseball. He started his coaching career as one of the original baseball coaches at Spanish Springs High School and continued to coach there for 6 seasons. After leaving Spanish Springs High School he went on to coach for North Valleys High School for 5 seasons and is currently a hitting consultant to Coach Vince Angle at Yerington High School. Ron has experience coaching kids from little league all the way to the high school level.  He emphasizes and teaches the fundamental aspects of the game, specializing in the hitting approach. Ron currently serves as an assistant coach on the 9U team, a position he started in fall of 2016.  Ron also serves as the Muckdogs 17U summer team assistant coach.
